A camel caravan heads north across the Sahara from Timbuktu, Mali, to the salt mines of Taudeni. Camel herders will drop loads of hay every few days to ensure adequate forage for their animals during the 14-day return trek. Planning and precision are vital to the survival of both man and beast.
