Irish-language poet Louis de Paor directs the Center for Irish Studies at the National University of Ireland, Galway. Like many Irish-speakers today, de Paor said his interest and ability in the Irish language was influenced at an early age. De Paor recalled that his father "took a particular interest in our learning in acquiring the language and bribed us on occasion by paying us to read books in Irish when we were teenagers."
