Fish bones, found to come from a freshwater catfish, are spread out for examination after
they were found in an amphora on the floor of the Black Sea off Bulgaria, part of the
cargo of an ancient shipwreck. Some of the bones had butcher marks, confirming that
chunks of fish had been placed in the amphora for shipping. The bones were found to
date from the fifth to third centuries B.C., making the shipwreck the oldest ever found in
the Black Sea.
