A mountain gorilla gazes at photographer Kristen Ashburn through the dense foliage of Virunga National Park. Threatened by warfare, poachers, and deforestation, the gentle mountain gorillas are among the most endangered species on earth. The late researcher Dian Fossey publicized their plight in her book, Gorillas in the Mist. Today, Rwandan field staff at the Karisoke Research Center, where Fossey worked, strive to protect the remaining mountain gorillas.

On February 28, 2002, nearly 100 of the world's top photojournalists participated in a historic, one-day documentary of the African continent. Their results are available in a new book titled A Day in the Life of Africa. All publishing profits will go to AIDS education programs in Africa.

Visit A Day in the Life of Africa Web site for more information and details of how to buy the book.
