PT-109—The Search for the Wreck

In the makeshift computer room aboard the search ship, ocean explorer Robert Ballard scrutinizes sonar scans of the roughly 5-by-7-mile (8-by-11-kilometer) search area.

The sonar search turned up some 70 good targets, of which about a dozen were deemed worthy of visual investigation via ROVs.
