A great white shark devours bait set outside a cage that protects a human diver. The great white is the fiercest of the sharks, eating tuna, sea lions, dolphins, other sharks, and carrion—but not humans. Great white sharks occasionally attack humans due to mistaken identity or invasion of the shark's territory by people.

Great white sharks can be up to 21 feet (6.4 meters) long and weigh up to 7,000 pounds (3,175 kilograms). They can swim at 15 miles per hour (24 kilometers per hour) to attack their prey.
